10 PS4 Games You Need to Play

ps4must_11.jpg
It’s finally here. The next generation has finally arrived. Sony’s PlayStation 4 is leading us into this brave new world. And with that, we have decided to compile a short list of titles that we favor for gamers new to the PS4 (which is most of us).

injustice: Gods Among Us Ultimate Edition

ps4must_10.jpg
This game is so much fun on the last-gen consoles that it can only get better on the next-gen consoles, right? We think so. Not only do you get more content, but also, the graphics update alone is worth the price of admission to fans of the DC Universe. So grab this title and some of your favorite couch co-op or online buddies and get to smashing.

LEGO Marvel Super Heroes

ps4must_9.jpg
Honestly, there really hasn’t been a bad LEGO game yet. There are some that are better than others, but after playing all of them, I can truly say that I have enjoyed every one. But when I play LEGO Batman 2, I really hoped for a Marvel LEGO game. Well, my thoughts were heard, and not only that, I’ll get to experience what the LEGO franchise has to offer on the PS4. Awesome.

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag

ps4must_8.jpg
I love this game. In my opinion, it’s the best one that Ubisoft has dropped on us yet. There is so much to do and love in this game. Until Black Flag released, I had hoped for a pirate game that was actually worth playing for so long, but the closest I got was Risen 2, and we all know what a turd that turned out to be. But now we all get to experience the swash-buckly goodness of pirates and the greatness of Assassin’s Creed–all in one kickass, next-gen package.

Madden NFL 25

ps4must_7.jpg
I have ben quoted as saying that the Madden franchise won’t change until the rules of football change. But I was wrong. Looking at Madden NFL 25 on the PS4 makes me believe that I can have an incredible football experience in a game. The graphics are incredible, and the gameplay looks more fluid than it ever has before. It makes me want to call some buddies, get some beer, fire up the grill, and play some Madden

Contrast

ps4must_6.jpg
As gaming has progressed, there have been tons of advances in lighting effects. Most of the time, they are employed as an enhancement to the story or gameplay of titles. But in Contrast, you will actually use lights and shadow as part of your strategy. This kooky little platformer looks like it has a lot to offer gamers, and with the PS4’s ramped-up processors, it should be a really cool romp through a really cool story.

Knack

ps4must_5.jpg
This game is your standard platformer and has lot in common with games such as Ratchet & Clank and Skylanders. The gameplay style will feel very familiar, but it brings on a few new tricks to add to its fun. You get the availability to not only play in co-op with a friend, but the co-op mode is actually an assistive thing as well as a gameplay thing. You can help your partner power him or herself up by helping them amalgamate pieces of the landscape right into their body. And they can do the same for you.

Need for Speed: Rivals

ps4must_4.jpg
This game looks like an all-out war between you and any other racer that feels like they have the cojones to step up and race you. With some insane tracks, the cops chasing you, and tons of mods for your cars–NFS: Rivals is shaping up to be an incredible joyride. And with the huge assortment of cars that I will never be able to afford to even look at, it could be the coolest of the Need for Speed titles so far. Let’s just hope that it’s not just a precursor to the upcoming movie.

Call of Duty: Ghosts

ps4must_3.jpg
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare sucks. That was the thought that filled my head when I saw this game for the first time. It blows the rest away. I may never ever play Black Ops again. Ghostscombines all of the stuff I like about Call of Duty and nearly eliminates all the stuff I hate…except for all the snot-nosed 12-year olds out there that think they’ve got game if they drop you once in a match. Oh well, you can’t win them all, I guess. So set your loadout and help me wage war on those guys.

Battlefield 4

ps4must_2.jpg
After playing Battlefield 4 on the PS3, I figured it wouldn’t be that much better on the PS4. I couldn’t have been more wrong. While the presentation on the PS3 is great, and the water effects are top drawer, the processing power of the PS4 just blows the graphics into a whole new level of amazing. The gameplay is smoother, and now, there are going to be even more people for me to annihilate in online matches. Doubling the amount of players possible, the online portion of BF4 is going to be epic. You hear me? Epic.

Killzone: Shadowfall

ps4must_1.jpg
Though never as successful or widely received as HaloKillzone is one of the best exclusive shooters out there. It has maintained a steady following through two core systems and even a few mobile platforms. Killzone 3 is actually one of my personal favorite shooters on the PS3. So naturally, when I saw the trailers for Shadowfall, I got excited. And now that I have seen the promised land, the newest iteration of the Killzone franchise has officially blown me away. So until Destiny releases, I imagine I will be blowing stuff up and killing Helghans wholesale inKillzone: Shadowfall.

by Matt Walker
A few months back, as I was playing GTA VThe Last of US, and the more recent Assassin’s Creed IV, I found myself wondering just what the next-gen was going to bring on the PS4 (and beyond). I had heard all the praise and expectations, but after several years of PR jargon, I learned to let those promises be just that–promises. Too often, those promises never come to fruition, and the product we get is sometimes not what we were promised. And as we drew closer to launch, there were a couple of speed bumps many didn’t see coming. Watch_Dogs delayed, Driveclub delayed, a few early reports of technical issues, and a few other issues suggested things might not be as smooth as we hoped.
However, Sony charged on, bobbing and weaving with the best of them. And now, here it is! We are now holding the next-generation in our greedy gaming hands. Has Sony succeeded? Has the company delivered on its promises? Is this all that we have been waiting for? Or has the proverbial ball been dropped before next-gen even gets the chance to start?
After several hours with the system, and going through its many different features, Sony has answered my questions–loudly.
After unpacking the sleek box the unit comes in, you will go through your own personal ritual of setting up the system for your television (my wife made fun of me for several minutes). Once you’ve powered on, the first thing you will notice is the light on top of the system glowing white and then turning into the PlayStation blue. From here, you will have to do the rather small day-one update. While day-one patches of any kind are a bother, they are necessary to ensure all the features are going to work on the system, and they’ve become so commonplace that gamers shouldn’t really gripe about it.
After you go through your setup phase on the system, you are greeted with the new PlayStation interface. We’ve seen several videos and demonstrations on how this would work, so while not a complete surprise, it was rather pleasant fully embracing the interface. I have two quick notes: One, this is a very fluid interface, well evolved past the current PS3 interface many have long complained about; two, you will have to take some time to get used to the way things are setup. There are two rows of content for you to scour through. The main row houses your downloaded games, music unlimited, videos unlimited, streaming services, an Internet browser, and the library (more on this in a moment). In the top row are some more familiar icons (user profile, chat, settings, and messages to name a few) with a few modifications in some of those for a better user experience, such as the messaging center now resembling text messages as opposed to its current state on the PS3.
PS4 Screenshot
One of the big things being promoted with this next-gen is sharing and social interaction. The “What’s New” icon displays some appealing information about not only the games you have played, but also the activities of your friends as well. You can also share videos and screenshots from here too. With the way gaming has been progressing, this is a wonderful edition that I am anxious to see grow.
Again, the main row of content you see right off the bat is already rather full, and will only get fuller as you download more games in the months to come. However, the Library icon is a small blessing in disguise. Here, everything you have is displayed similarly to the way the PlayStation Store displays all new releases, add-ons, videos, etc. For the collectors out there, this will become their main go-to icon down the road.
PS4 Screenshot
Now, one of the biggest issues has been the install sizes on the games, and rightfully so. Some might say the system’s standard 500GB is plenty of room, but after downloading games like Killzone: Shadow Fall (39GB), Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag (21GB), Need for Speed Rivals (16GB), Madden NFL 25 (15 GB), your hard drive is going to be eaten alive in a short period of time. Even “smaller” games will still eat up some of that space. Contrast alone takes up around 2.5GB, while Resogun clocks in around 466MB. As it stands now, you are only looking at somewhere around 15 fully downloaded games before having to go in and do some serious data management.

System: PS4
Dev: Sony
Pub: Sony
Release: November 15, 2013
Players: 1 (2+ Online)
Screen Resolution: 480p-1080p
Thankfully, Sony has once again adopted the option of letting the players upgrade their hard drives. Making this as simple as it was on the PS3 didn’t hurt either. We upgraded ours to 1TB hard drive, and the whole process took around 15 minutes from start to finish. If you decide to do this upgrade, just make sure you have a 2.5 inch SATA hard drive. These are nowhere near as expensive as they once were, cashing-in between $70-90 bucks (depending on brand).
PS4 Screenshot
All this talk about installing and hard drive space brings me to one of my favorite points about the PS4: The background installs are actually background downloads. Utilizing a caching system to get the required data to let you play almost instantly is something that was sorely missed on the PS3. Having it now is a blessing in disguise, not only for gamers themselves, but also for Sony. Add to this that PS+ members (something you will now have to have for online play) will have the updates downloaded overnight while the PS4 is in standby mode.
The new DualShock 4 capitalizes on the comfort we’ve enjoyed for years and adds some fresh takes to the design while still being easy to use. The new touch pad in the middle is something I can’t wait to see utilized in other games. There’s also a share button that makes the already simplistic task even more so. Adding in mic capabilities, a speaker in the controllers, and a light on the back for precision tracking helps round out the new DualShock 4, maximizing potential while keeping all that we’ve come to know and love.

I, like many other gamers, have waited for years for the next generation to start. We’ve had visions of what we would like to see and how we wanted the game consoles to evolve. If nothing else, the PlayStation 4 is a masterful evolution of the PS3. With lots of promise still on the horizon, the PS4 may have had a few small bumps in the road to this launch, but it’s definitely not showing. If you are excited for the next-gen, you should already have this in your hands. For those who are holding out–put your worries to rest and embrace the next-gen. You’ll be glad you did.

Cheat Game Pikmin 3

Secret file locations
Search the indicated locations to find all ten secret files. There are two secret files in each area, and each memo unlocks a random number. It is not yet known what these numbers do.
Tropical Winds
    1. It is found in the lower corner in the wet rocky area where the Pikmin encounter a Calcified Crushblat.
    2. It is found near the tree stump, accessible by placing Pikmin on pressure pads. Before going into the hole in the stump, look for the file around the roots leading into the rocks below.
Garden Of Hope
    3. It is found floating around the weighted lift puzzle. Use Pikmin to weigh down the platforms to reach the file.
    4. It is found on the path to the Quaggled Mireclops, in the fallen pot where a Peckish Aristocrab appears.
Distant Tundra
    5. On the rock wall surrounding the landing ground, use the rocks outside to throw a captain up onto the ledge to get the file.
    6. Inside the cave with the Bamboo Wall, use ten flying Pikmin to open the path. The file is behind the two fallen ridged metal panels in the dirt ahead.
Twilight River
    7. While traveling to the Scornet Maestro, ride on a pad down the second river with lily pads, and throw a captain to the pad to reach the ledge. Then, throw a captain to the high platform down the grass path to find the file.
    8. On the root path of the Scornet Maestro's tree, after passing the bridge, throw a captain to the roots on the right. The file is down the path.
Formidable Oak
    9. Near the start of the oak, destroy the reinforced wall, and look in the spotcaps to find the file.
    10. In the dark section of the cave that needs to be lit with blue mushrooms, go across the shroom tops to find a pile of dirt near Candypop Buds. Dig up the dirt with Pikmin to find the final file.

    Future Fun Land
Once you get all the trophies and amulets, it will look as if the island is saved and the credits will roll; however, all is not completed. Go to the lighthouse at the beach and it will turn into a rocket and launch into space. After the intermission sequence ends, drive into the portal of light where the lighthouse used to be. You will be teleported to a new world, Future Fun Land.
  • Adventure 2
Defeat Wizpig in Future Fun Land to unlock Adventure 2. This adventure involves collecting platinum balloons on reversed tracks.
  • Play as Drumstick
Look for the mountain with the Frog Effigy. It is to the left of Wizpig's head. Use the stylus to pull back the frog and let go to release it. Try to launch it up to the Frog Effigy. Once you successfully do this, a short intermission sequence will play and a new frog with a chicken head will jump out. Run this frog over to unlock Drumstick. His stats are:
      Top Speed: 4/5
      Handling: 2/5
      Acceleration: 5/5
He is the best racer in the plane.
  • Play as Taj
Collect all 47 Balloons, have the full Wizpig Amulet, and get all gold trophies. Once you have done this, go to Future Fun Land and start the final Wizpig battle. Defeat Wizpig to unlock Taj. His stats are:
      Top Speed: 5/5
      Handling: 1/5
      Acceleration: 1/5
He is the best racer in the car, although his stats will make you think otherwise.
  • Play as T.T.
Beat all of T.T's times in Time Trial mode with every vehicle. You must also have the full T.T. amulet. You will see his ghost when you start the Time Trial. You must beat this. Top Speed: 5/5
      Handling: 4/5
      Acceleration: 5/5
He is the best racer in the hovercraft and is a very good, all-round racer in every vehicle.
  • Play as Wizpig
Successfully complete Adventure 2 to unlock Wizpig. Like Taj, his stats look bad, but he is still good. His stats are:
      Top Speed: 5/5
      Handling: 1/5
      Acceleration: 1/5
  • Quick start
At the moment the race commentator says "Get Ready" and those words fade from the screen, press A.
  • More effective turbo boosts
You can get more effective turbo boosts by releasing A before hitting a zipper or by using a Blue Balloon. You can hear and see a difference.
  • Drafting
When playing in Adventure or Single Race mode, you can gain speed and overtake a racer by driving behind them until white speed lines appear behind you. Note: You must stay directly behind a racer for this to work.
  • T.T. Amulet
Collect all secret keys and open all the doors with them. Defeat T.T. in all the tracks you create and you will gain a piece each time. Make the track shorter for a quicker win.
  • Wizpig Amulet
Defeat the Bosses from each World twice (the first Battle and the Boss Rematch).
  • 100 Coins
After defeating the Bosses the second time you can go back and try the Boss Touch Challenge. They are very difficult, especially the one at Dino Domainone.
  • Sand puzzles
Go to the beach area near the lighthouse and use the stylus to draw pictures in the sand. If you draw a balloon, you will get a Golden Balloon. If you draw a pentagon, you will get a scratch card. If you draw a Coin (small circle shape), you will get 10 Coins; this can be done a maximum of four times.
  • Hidden scratch card
When you start, follow the track around until you go through a log tunnel. In here, there is a cracked wall with a picture of Wizpig. Draw around Wizpig's head (ears included) and the wall will crumble and a small area will open up that contains a scratch card. You must be quite accurate and it may take a few attempts.
  • Secret key in Ancient Lake
At the start of the Ancient Lake level, there is a ramp on the right. Collect a Blue Balloon and boost up the ramp to collect the key.
  • Cracks in the wall in Beach
Go to the beach and touch a coconut tree with your stylus. Pull one of the trees back and release it. You can make three cracks in the wall. Collect them quickly. Coins will appear which can quickly disappear after about ten seconds.
  • Secret key in Boulder Canyon
Go across the drawbridge and hit the Blue Balloon and the little bell. You should now have a boost. Turn around and wait until the drawbridge is fully raised. Boost up it and you should now be sitting on a ledge with the key.
  • Secret key in Crescent Island
Start the Crescent Island level and pass by the big river on your left. After this river, there will be a little lagoon. The key is in here.
  • Balloon in Dino Domain
There is a Balloon on the road up to Dino Domain.
  • Ice Balloon in Snowflake Mountian
On the way to Snowflake Mountain, to the right of the entrance will be a Balloon in an Ice Block. Use the stylus to slide it all the way down the path and into the water. It will float all the way down the river and will be thawed out, waiting to be collected at the beach.
  • Secret key in Snowball Valley
After passing through the Snowball Valley and exiting the igloo tunnel, move through the Balloon row that you see. Go down the straightaway to the finish line. Then, turn left just before the candy cane holding up the finish line banner. Move up the hill towards a picket fence, then turn right to find a small cubbyhole containing the key.
  • Banjo series references
The key in the Snowball Valley looks like the Ice Key from the Banjo series.
The Silver Coins look like the ones in Spiller's Harbor from Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge.

It's EarthBound. Need I Say More?
    by Sean Engemann
EarthBound, called Mother 2 in Japan, is the second title in a trilogy that nearly didn't happen. Plagued with programming issues due to an ambitious design, logistics problems with developers Ape and HAL Laboratory having their studios quite a distance apart from one another, and less-than-stellar sales after launch, it seemed EarthBound was doomed to be forgotten. Instead, it has become a cult classic, sought after by many an obsessed collector, with Nintendo being scolded by the fan community for several years now, begging the Big N to release EarthBound as a Virtual Console title. After launching on the Wii U for Japanese audiences this past March, Nintendo hinted at an international re-release later in the year. Then suddenly, July 18th fell upon us, and those of us on the Western side of the world opened the eShop with a tear-inducing surprise. Though only a port of the original Super NES title, EarthBound still plays as addictive and wacky as ever, and it comes with Wii U exclusive features that make it a must have purchase.

For those who missed their opportunity in the Nineties, or the younger crowd unaware of its existence, EarthBound is an old school, turn-based RPG where a group of would-be heroes embark on an epic adventure to save the world. Playing as Ness, an eager boy with latent psychic abilities, you discover that an alien invasion is threatening the goodness of the land, with the main antagonist Giygas using the evil within each citizen to fuel his own power. Ness must seek out eight sanctuaries that will unite his strength with that of the world, granting him the power to defeat Giygas.
EarthBound, however, has many unconventional twists woven into its plot. Unlike other RPG series of the era such as Final FantasyDragon Quest, and Breath of Fire–ones that made Medieval fantasy the standard-bearing setting for the genre--EarthBound opted for a modern backdrop with a humorous parody on Western culture. Instead of axes and staves, you'll battle with frying pans, yo-yos, and baseball bats against oddball enemies such as runaway dogs, cranky ladies, and worthless protoplasm. You'll access funds through an ATM, visit inns and drugstores, watch a concert, and take a bath in a hot spring after battling a boss called Belch. Oftentimes the humor is nonsensical, but it’s hilarious nonetheless. Every character is bursting with personality, and conversations poke at various idiosyncrasies of 1990’s pop culture. Playing EarthBound nearly two decades after the original release makes it more amusing, since the references have long since expired in today's society, making most of the jokes an homage to an age past.

Though there is a linear progression to the story, EarthBound doesn't tie you down. Towns run seamlessly into the wilderness; there’s no overworld map in the game. You're free to waltz in and out of the urban areas, chat with locals, and grind experience from monsters of the surrounding areas at your leisure. Sometimes your next objective is elusive, but fear not, for Nintendo has given you the power of strategy. The Nintendo Power Player's Guide can be accessed for free on theEarthBound website, and it has been designed specifically for easy access via the Wii U GamePad. By simply pressing the Home button on the controller, you can switch to the Internet browser and filter through all the pages of the digital guide. And since the browser saves your current webpage, you can quickly jump back and forth between the game and the guide with little delay.

Being able to free up the television and play directly on the GamePad screen is also a nice perk, and you'll likely burn through the battery charge well before you want to put the controller down. And like every Virtual Console release, you can post EarthBound comments and screenshots on the Miiverse as well as help people out or get a taste of the game's wacky dialogue with some of the screenshots other players have posted. Another small but helpful addition is the ability to suspend the game without saving it, thus allowing you to replay a tough boss battle by reloading a suspended file saved just beforehand without the worry of losing half your cash should you perish
    System: Wii U
    Dev: Ape, HAL Laboratory
    Pub: Nintendo
    Release: July 18, 2013
    Players: 1
Screen Resolution: 480p-1080pFantasy Violence, Mild Blood, Suggestive Themes, Crude Humor
EarthBound was a graphically intense game in its era, to the point where Nintendo had to struggle just to fit all the programming into a Super NES cartridge. The visuals have translated wonderfully onto the Wii U. Whether playing on the television or the GamePad, the limited spectrum of colors look great, and there is no choppiness in the animations whatsoever. In fact, though there are no visual enhancements in this port, it looks better than before, since back in the 90s, bulbous televisions were littered with tint and contrast issues (at least mine was).
    EarthBound Screenshot
The soundtrack for EarthBound has its own history, with over a hundred original orchestrations that took up a third of the cartridge space on the SNES version. With a mix of wacky, off-tune compositions, beach bops, jazzy jives, and more traditional RPG fanfares, your ears will always have something interesting to listen to.
If EarthBound was simply a great classic game, the hype around this surprise Virtual Console entry would only be mediocre. No, what makes EarthBound's release so alluring is the rarity in which we have been treated to it. Only the second title of the series ever made it to North America, with European audiences not even getting that. And unlike many Nintendo marquis titles that have seen regurgitated ports on the Wii and the DS family consoles, EarthBound has eluded even that. There has been nothing since 1995, nothing except rabid fans crying out for Nintendo to deliver this gem. For proof of its popularity, simply check the community in the Miiverse, which at the time of this review has surpassed 13,000 posts, and will quickly overtake every other game in the forum. We have EarthBound once again, and there is much rejoicing. Now it is time for us to shout at Nintendo to localize the other two games of the series.

    RATING DESCRIPTION
    4.2
    Graphics
It may seem archaic by today's standards, but the quality of the original still shines through. The animations are incredibly smooth on the Wii U.
    4.0
    Control
Having a control stick makes exploration a lot easier, but checking objects and conversing with people can still get fumbled if you're not standing in exactly the right spot.
    4.4
Music / Sound FX / Voice Acting
It's as quirky and catchy as the rest of the game, and is loaded with variety. It's a shame the soundtrack didn't get packed with the download.
    4.5
    Play Value
Ten dollars may seem steep for a game nearly two decades old, but you'll quickly brush that aside as you get sucked into the lengthy adventure.
